More about the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe
For a long time, Zimbabwe has been well known for being the bread basket of Africa. However, the situation has since changed, with hunger being one of the problems that this country has to deal with. This can be attributed to several reasons, chief among these being unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change, lack of skilled personnel to address these changes, and lack of adequate resources to tackle the problem of unpredictable weather patterns. At the same time, Zimbabwe has a vibrant youth population with a strong high school educational background.
These youths have shown talent, initiative, and commitment to the life-saving activities that they engage in to survive amid hunger and other related problems. Providing these youths with opportunities to pursue postgraduate studies will create a strong human resource base that can help close the human resource gap while allowing those of their counterparts in the region and Africa to learn from them.
The planned activities to engage postgraduate students of this Gr2A project in creating start-ups in communities will help address youth unemployment, which is prevalent in Zimbabwe while transferring knowledge of green computing technologies to these communities. In addition to creating employment, this will ensure project sustainability after EU funding ends. For more information about NUST Zimbabwe, click here.
As an agro-based economy, Zimbabwe has traditionally benefited from the development of information systems that focus on the productivity and efficiency of agricultural processes. However, little research has been done on integrating climate change concepts into these processes. By integrating predictive analytics on weather and environmental patterns, Zimbabwean farmers can better prepare for unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change. The National University of Science and
Technology (NUST) will therefore specialize in designing green agricultural information systems that utilize predictive analytics to give appropriate advice to farmers and decision-makers in the agricultural sector. Research in Zimbabwe will focus on climate change modeling and green agriculture, making NUST the Centre of Excellence in Green Agriculture.
Programs Offered:
- Master of Science in Information Systems
- Master of Science in Big Data
- PhD in Information Systems
The Department of Informatics and Analytics is primarily concerned with the structure and behavior of systems that produce, store, process, and display data. It is concerned with information and information technology research and applications. Stated differently, informatics turns data and information into knowledge that individuals may utilize daily. Informaticists are concerned with facilitating effective human-computer interaction and the use of computing by individuals. In its most basic form, informatics is the science of information and the utilization of data. Informatics is a major factor in our world since trustworthy information is necessary for efficient operation and decision-making in a variety of organizations. For more information click here.
